Login Nodes

The login nodes provide the interface with which to interact with the ALICE system. They consist of 4 HPE servers, each with:

  • 2 x AMD EPYC 7532 32-Core processors
  • 256 GB memory
  • 800 GB local NVMe disk
  • 10 gb ethernet connection to the UoL network
  • HDR-100 infiniband connection to the ALICE cluster interconnect and storage.

Users connect to the login nodes using ssh for command line access or NoMachine for virtual desktop access.

Console access NX access

Console (left) and Virtual Dekstop (right) access to ALICE login nodes.

The login nodes provide access to the ALICE shared filesystems (/home, /data, /scratch) and allow users to run basic applications, analyse data and submit computationally expensive simulations/applications to the cluster scheduler to be run on the cluster compute nodes..
