March 2026: Problems when copying files to RFS
There is an unresolved problem that can cause failures when copying files to the RFS from ALICE. Symptoms are the copy failing with 'permission denied' errors. This particularly affects large files, in the order of tens of GB in size. The only workaround at the moment is to do the copy via a Windows machine, from where ALICE data and scratch areas are visible as \uol.le.ac.uk\root\ALICE\data and uol.le.ac.uk\root\ALICE\scratch respectively.
October 2023: No Access to /rfs when first logged on via NoMachine
The RFS will not be accessible to you immediately after logging in via NoMachine. It will become accessible after you next unlock your NoMachine session, but to work around this you can force your session to be locked, and then unlock it. From 'System' on your start panel select 'Lock Screen', then enter your password to unlock your session.
